BMC presents The Impressions - The Jamaican Connection

Superb singer, musician and songwriter Curtis Mayfield and his group the Impressions, in early stages featuring Jerry Butler, had a big influence on the Jamaican music scene. Many of their recordings in the 60s have been covered countless times on the island. In this set of 2 mixes, of which this is part I, I like to bring awareness of this fact to listeners who might not realize how often they are actually enjoying a Curtis Mayfield penned song and at the same time I want to show the absolute brilliance of Curtis' Impressions and former Impression Jerry Butler of the 60s. In this mix I've joined the original Impressions song with one or two cover versions out of Jamaica, in some cases featuring an instrumental or deejay version. Of some of these there are many more cover versions available, but I've picked one or two that bring an overall diverse selection of Jamaican artists in the mix. There's also many other Impressions songs that were covered, so this is not meant as the definite selection, but it is a showcase of the influence and brilliance of Curtis Mayfield's Impressions on the Jamaican music scene: The Jamaican Connection. Mix in the usual BMC style: no full tunes, one continuous mix with some added soundsamples. Little over 60 minutes for each part, so overall 2 hours of pure beauty and for some possibly a musical lesson. Enjoy!

10 Outta 10 - a 2017 Jamaican Dancehall mix by BMC - Pure Summer Vibes

When, after a long time of not doing so, I recently checked out some modern Jamaican dancehall riddims I realized it has been 5 years since I last made a mix of modern dancehall music. I liked some of the riddims and tunes I heard and since summer is here, the vibe was right for a new mix full of summer dancehall vibes. Not one for my usual listeners that are strictly into roots reggae, but I love this. Turned out as 60 minutes of feel good, sunny, party music that *will* make you dance around. Together with my latest modern roots mix 'Hold The Faith' this will be my soundtrack for this summer! Maybe yours too!? Mainly 2017 tunes, variety of artists and producers. Brotherly Love - An Old School New Style Modern Roots Mix by BMC (2017)

About 4 years after my latest full modern roots mix and with an increasing amount of released modern roots with a traditional touch I decided to go into it again and make this type of releases the focus of a new mix. Love those sounds, that need to be heard, so here it is. 79 minutes, modern roots releases but with a more traditional sound and instrumentation. Sometimes recycled old riddims, sometimes newly played riddims. Clear influences of 60s (rocksteady), 70s (roots, instrumentals, dub) and early 80s (rub-a-dub) Jamaican music. Tunes included date from roughly the last decade, but the majority from the last 5 years. Those claiming to not like contemporary reggae, think again after hearing this! :) Old School New Style!
